Community Health Advocacy Program
Welcome to CHAP!
The Community Health Advocacy Program (CHAP) works cooperatively with various Providence organizations to promote the physical, mental, and emotional health of individuals and the community as a whole. Composed of student volunteers in PLME, our teams identify relevant health issues and then develop programs to address these issues. CHAP provides the opportunity for communities and future health care professionals to meet the health care needs of areas that are often underserved due to a variety of social, economic, and cultural barriers.
As a member of CHAP, you have the unique ability to create a long-lasting impact on the Providence community and get to know PLME students across class years.
More information on CHAP can be found on their website.
Child Health’s aim is to instill healthy habits at a young age and to foster a passion for STEM in children. Our volunteers offer creativity, passion, and dedication while creating fun, interactive health lessons. Volunteers will teach engaging health lessons to preschool and elementary school children (ages 3-12) in Providence. Lessons can range from nutrition to hygiene and more.
CHAP Child Health is a great program for any PLME student interested in education, early childhood development, or health equity.
Creative Connections in Medicine is a group aimed at providing students with opportunities to integrate arts practice into medical interactions. CCM does this in a few ways, including volunteering with the Healing Arts Program at Rhode Island Hospital, creating art projects for the community, and engaging in other creative initiatives that focus on the wellbeing of those that receive care but also those who provide care.
We promote awareness, increase involvement, and encourage discussion about the use of arts and other creative modalities as ways of healing and connecting in medicine.

Project Inspire aims to provide mentorship and guidance to elementary through high school students in the Providence area. The primary focus is to encourage students to pursue their interests, be an advocate and supporter in their daily lives, serve as a role model and someone to turn to for advice, and help them pursue higher education.
Mentors and mentees will be paired up according to their interests and goals. Additionally, volunteers may be asked to plan events such as speaker sessions, to increase students’ exposure to different career fields and provide an open environment for them to ask questions.
