PLME FAQ

All applicants to Brown University apply through the Common Application. There is no separate PLME application. Students interested in the PLME will find a relevant section in the Common Application that includes the PLME-specific essay questions. You do not need to submit a separate application to The Warren Alpert Medical School.

Apply to Brown

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer extensions to the application deadline. In fairness to all applicants, all materials must be submitted by the stated deadline. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Yes. Early Decision (ED) is binding. If admitted to Brown through ED, you must enroll regardless of whether you are admitted to the PLME. Student applying to multiple combined medical or pre-medical programs are encouraged to apply Regular Decision.

Yes. International students can apply to the PLME via the Common Application. Permanent US residency or dual citizenship is strongly encouraged.

International applicants for whom English is not a first language, a primary language spoken at home, or the primary language of instruction for the duration of their secondary school career are strongly encouraged to submit the results of an English proficiency test. Please review Brown's English proficiency requirements for international students.

There are no fixed course requirements for admission to Brown or the PLME. However, successful applicants typically pursue a rigorous and well-balanced curriculum across core academic subjects. Brown evaluates each applicant's transcript in the context of the opportunities available at their school.

Brown expects students to take at least four--preferably five--courses each year in English, mathematics, science, history/social studies, and a world language. Students are also encouraged to pursue electives in the arts and other areas of interest.

Yes. Brown requires SAT or ACT scores for first-year applicants. Standardized test scores remain one factor among the many that are considered in Brown's whole-person admission process. Learn more about standardized testing requirements on Brown University's Office of College Admission website.

Standardized Tests

Interviews are not part of the application process for the current application cycle. PLME applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a video introduction, which provides the admissions committee with an opportunity to learn more about them.

Video Introduction

We are always glad that prospective students are excited about the PLME and interested in connecting with members of our community. However, reaching out to faculty, advisors, or current students is not necessary for admission and does not provide any advantage in the selection process. All applications are reviewed holistically, and the PLME does not track demonstrated interest.

If you have general questions about the program, please explore our website or email plme@brown.edu.
